After reading numerous politico nonfiction (mostly analysis) about this administration, I picked up Murakami's latest, Kafka on the Shore, to lower my blood pressure. Although I'm only a few chapters into the book, I'm far more disturbed, questioning the balance of universe. After reading his past novels such as Sputnik Sweetheart and The Elephant Vanishes, you realize this man likes to write about that very thin line between dream and reality, frustrating the crap out of readers like myself.
"Where is the scotch?"
This is what I know so far in the book. Kafka, a fifteen-year-old, decides to run away from home to a secluded library in a remote city by himself, spending days to figure out his life (some sort of internal teenage crisis). He has an imaginary friend, a black crow, who he occasionally talks to (maybe an alter-ego?). And plenty of mystifying characters and absurd references...
One word: HEAVEN. |

Planning Danielle's 22nd birthday party to ending one was one of the most exhilerating things I've done recently. This elaborately planned party easily packed her house with people I haven't seen in awhile. It also reminded me why I went to Wisconsin (it's great to be back in the city where I started my college career). Importatnly, I learned this one great lesson from this lavish one: always start the party at 12:30 AM. It's bound to last until 6 in the morning and people already come intoxicated so it's much more lively. But in this case, maybe too lively.
I had to make 3-4 compilation CDs packed with all the classic poppy tunes, which I am not going to name some tunes (I can see some of my snobby music friends desserting me already), but it did the trick, especially with the girls. Maybe it's more recently I've been noticing this strange phenomenon as I've been "aging." It seems that people are dancing less and less at parties. Fuckin around to cheesy pop music, in my opinion, does keep my tooch young.
I must say that Danielle did a heck of job of gathering people and let us really have fun. Once again, happy 22nd birthday to you. |

| | cheerful | ] | Since graduation, it's been rather difficult to sit down near a computer to update my daily anecdotes. Today is the first day with some time for myself and clean my room out after neglecting it for the past few years.

I finally decided to switch to Apple after using PC as my main weapon for years. So I ordered the new Powerbook. But the Apple store wouldn't customize to my preference, so I had to order it off the Online store. Interestingly, they customize their computers overseas in Shanghai, then ship to the US customers. I am currently one of the customers patiently waiting for my new friend to arrive. Tonight by 7:30 PM. |
